Women's Soccer Earns 3-1 Exhibition Win Over Vermont

Laaksonen scores twice to lead Minutewomen over Catamounts.
MANCHESTER, Vt. - In what's become an annual opening exhibition match to start the year, the UMass women's soccer team picked up a 3-1 win over Vermont at Applejack Field on Thursday night. After the Catamounts opened the scoring early, the Minutewomen scored three straight.
UMass will play its second exhibition match of the season this Sunday afternoon at Rudd Field when the Minutewomen host Holy Cross at 4 PM. Admission is free to all.
Vermont cracked the scoreboard early before Sini Laaksonen tied the match 1-1 and then notched another later in the evening putting UMass up 2-1.
Signe Schiolden added a late insurance goal to give the final score.
The regular-season under first-year head coach Jason Dowiak will officially kickoff on Thursday, August 16 against Maine at Rudd Field. Kickoff is set for 4 PM and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
