The men’s soccer sophomore led the Minutemen in goals, assists and points a season ago.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's soccer forward Davis Smith was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List as announced by the United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club on Thursday afternoon. Smith (Amherst, Mass.) is the first Minuteman to be named to the watch list since Ben Arikian became the first in program history to do so in 2009 and 2010. As a freshman a year ago, Smith led the 2017 Atlantic 10 Champions in goals, assists and points on his way to becoming the 19th All-American in program history.

The sophomore racked up the awards last year in addition to his United Soccer Coaches Third-Team All-America honor, adding the A-10 Rookie of the Year award to go along with first-team and all-rookie team league laurels in his first season on campus. Smith tallied 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points while sending home four game-winning goals, tying the mark for the third-most in a single season in program history.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year and will be announced on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo. Fifteen semifinalists will be announced near the end of the season with three finalists to be selected by votes placed by NCAA Division I coaches.
