Minutewomen Claim 6-1 Victory Over Rhode Island On Senior Day

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts tennis celebrated its 2017-18 senior class with a 6-1 victory over Rhode Island at the Mullins Center Courts on Fri., April 20. The program, head coach Juancarlos Nunez and assistant coach Ruth Seaborne celebrated the three-member senior class of Ana Yrazusta, Laura Moreno and Michelle Katzelnik prior to the match.
The Maroon and White improved to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in the Atlantic 10 with the victory while Rhode Island dropped to 1-17 and 0-6 with the loss.
Due to an insufficient number of student-athletes, Rhode Island forfeited the No. 3 doubles match as well as No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
In need of only one doubles team victory on the courts, Massachusetts still took No. 1 and No. 2 by 6-4 and 6-3 margins, respectively. Ruth Crawford and  Moreno downed Mihaela Codreanu and Ariel Haber at No. 1 while Yrazusta and Anna Napadiy took the No. 2 spot from Halah Davis and Paige Alshon.
Massachusetts collected singles victories by Yrazusta (No. 2), Janja Kovacevic (No. 3) and Moreno (No. 4) while Napadiy (No. 5) and Martina Bocchi (No. 6) won by forfeit.
Yrazusta bested Haber and Kovacevic outperformed Legler by identical 6-0, 6-1 margins. Moreno downed Alshon 6-4, 6-0 for the Senior Day win.
