Minutewomen Finish 11th at Doc Hosea Regatta

CAMDEN, N.J. – University of Massachusetts rowing faced a challenging field of competition on Saturday as the Minutewomen returned to the Cooper River for the Doc Hosea Regatta. In the team standings UMass placed 11th with 23 points.

Conditions made for a great day on the water with a slight cross-tail wind during the morning's heats before flat conditions during the finals.

UMass Varsity 8 boat began the day's action in the second heat. With a time of 7:01.27 the Minutewomen were sixth amongst Indiana, Dartmouth, Cornell, Minnesota and Navy. Next was the Second V8 , which all took sixth (7:20.49). The Varsity 4 crossed the finish line in 8:11.41 in its heat, finishing sixth. Wrapping up the morning's heats was the Second V4 , which claimed fifth (8:44.7) against Indiana, Cornell, Dartmouth and Navy.

All four UMass boats would race in their respective Petite Finals.

UMass' V8 tabbed fifth in its final (6:50.65) before the Second V8 also was slotted fifth (7:08.2). The V4 would go on to post a time of 7:52.91, good for third and short of Navy and Cornell while edging Northeastern, Atlantic 10 rival Rhode Island and Boston University. Wrapping up the afternoon was the Second V4 with third place effort (8:27.0) behind Navy and Dartmouth.

The Minutewomen will rest next weekend and return to competition on Sat., April 14 for the Knecht Cup.
