Minutewomen Launch Spring at Cooper Sprints

UMass returns to New Jersey on Sat., March 31 for the Doc Hosea Regatta

CAMDEN, N.J. – University of Massachusetts rowing marked the start to the team's Spring schedule on Sunday morning, getting on the water for the Cooper Sprints.
 
UMass' Second Varsity Four opened up the day's action, taking second in its heat with a time of 8:46.90. That mark was short of first place Navy's A boat while ahead of North Carolina, Atlantic 10 rival Rhode Island, the Navy B boat and Drexel. Next up was the Varsity Four which was third in the second heat (8:31.59), less than a second short of Navy (8:30.68) and behind first place Drexel.
 
In the Second Varsity Eight the Minutewomen competed against Navy, Bucknell and Drexel and posted a fourth place effort (7:45.61), securing a spot in the Petite Final. The Varsity Eight then took to the water and tabbed second (7:20.79), being topped only by Navy and advancing to the Grand Final.
 
Moving into Finals the 2V4 edged URI for a third place finish (8:52.73) behind the Navy A boat and North Carolina. Massachusetts faced Drexel, Boston College and Navy in the V4 Grand Final, crossing the finish line in 8:50.84.
 
The Minutewomen claimed second (8:03.92) in the 2V8 Petite Final, exactly 10 seconds behind Drexel and nearly eight ahead of West Virginia. Last on the docket was the V8 Grand Final, with the Maroon and White taking third (7:34.12) amongst Navy, URI, North Carolina and Drexel.
 
UMass returns to New Jersey next weekend for the Doc Hosea Regatta, slated for Sat., March 31.
