Men’s Swimming And Diving Wraps Up Home Opener Against Army

The Minutemen are back in action tomorrow afternoon in Rogers Pool against Fairfield.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's swimming and diving team opened up their 2018-19 home slate by hosting Army West Point in a dual meet on Friday evening at Rogers Pool. The Minutemen scored 113 team points while the Black Knights came out on top with a score of 176 in the home opener.
UMass opened up the evening with a runner-up showing in the 200 Medley Relay as Kellen Gray, Al Madden, Casey Ransford and Ryan Pedrick put together a time of 1:34.22. Ransford and Pedrick followed with a pair of third-place finishes in individual races as Ransford recorded a time of 1:55.18 in the. 200 Fly while Pedrick came in third with a time of 21.21 in a fast 50 Freestyle heat. Gray added a podium finish of his own in the 200 Backstroke, posting a time of 1:55.92.
Luther Gordon's time of 2:08.78 in the 200 Breaststroke was good for a runner-up finish for the junior after he finished third in the 100 Breaststroke earlier in the meet with a mark of 57.94.
Seamus Trzewik-Quinn led the way for the Minutemen in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 52.35 to finish third followed by Gray in fourth with a swim of 52.88.
Reece Donahue posted a top UMass score of 283.27 in the opening dives in the afternoon to finish as the runner-up before going on to score 267.08 in the 3-Meter Dive.
UMass wrapped up their first home meet with a time of 3:14.30 in the 400 Freestyle Relay as Pedrick, Michael Tartakovsky, Owen Churchwell and Gray put together the fastest Minuteman time.
The Minutemen will be back in their home pool at Rogers Pool tomorrow as they host Fairfield at 1 p.m.
