Women's Soccer Battles Delaware To 1-1 Draw

Jenny Hipp tallies first collegiate goal for Minutewomen.
AMHERST, Mass. - Jenny Hipp scored her first collegiate goal for the UMass women's s in the 77th minute of play, but Delaware equalized nearly seven minutes later as the two sides battled to a 1-1 double-overtime draw on Friday afternoon at Rudd Field. The Minutewomen will return to action on Sunday afternoon at home against visiting Holy Cross with kick-off set for 3 PM.
The draw moved the Minutewomen to 1-3-1 on the year, while Delaware continued its four-match unbeaten streak for a record of 2-2-2 overall.
Hipp's goal gave the Minutewomen a 1-0 lead despite carrying the bulk of play in the first half yet being unable to find the back of the net. The Blue Hens capitalized on a loose ball in the 83rd minute to tie the match forcing overtime.
UMass nearly ended the match in regulation, but an Erin Doster shot was saved by Delaware keeper Kailyn Rekos.
The Minutewomen started the first overtime with a flurry of shots inside Delaware's 18-yard box. A strike by Dani Sclafani was blocked just a minute into play while a follow up by Natalie Perrusault was deflected away by Rekos. The loose ball went through traffic where Sini Laaksonen was able to hit the ball, but her shot went left of the frame ending the possession. In the 98th minute, Laaksonen had another chance but her shot went high of target.
UMass again pushed the attack in the second overtime period with its best chance coming off a corner kick in the 104th minute. Sarah Beaulieu's service on the corner found Hipp who one-timed a shot on goal, but Rekos was in position to make the clean save.
Cassidy Babin finished the game with five saves in net for the Minutewomen including three on Delaware breakaways that kept the match even prior to Hipp's goal. Rekos finished the night with seven saves for the Blue Hens including three in the overtime periods.
UMass finished the match with a 24-to-9 shot advantage and a 6-to-4 edge in corner kicks.
