Late Goals Give Women's Soccer 3-1 Win Over Davidson

Minutewomen open Atlantic 10 play with win.
AMHERST, Mass. - Late goals in the final 10 minutes of play paved the way as the UMass women's soccer team opened Atlantic 10 play with a 3-1 victory over Davidson at Rudd Field on Thursday night. The win improved the Minutewomen to 4-4-1 overall and 1-0-0 in league play with UMass hosting Fordham on Sunday afternoon at home.
Thursday's match saw Erin Doster open the scoring in the 25th minute putting UMass up 1-0. Gabriela Kenyon headed a pass inside the near corner of the 18-yard box where Doster collected before firing a shot inside the far post.
The Minutewomen maintained the lead through halftime and well into the second half. In the 81st minute, Mollie Williams crashed the far side of the goal box to head home a cross by Erin Doster extending the lead to 2-0.
Davidson (2-8-0, 0-1-0 A-10) got a goal back in the 83rd minute when Allison Gray scored a chipper that bounced over Cassidy Babin who charged off her line. The chip shot had enough steam to reach the goal before the defense could clear the ball off the line.
Following a foul inside the 18-yard box in the 86th minute, UMass was awarded a penalty kick that Sini Laaksonen converted to make the score 3-1.
Overall, UMass held a 19-to-11 advantage in shots, while the Wildcats held a 6-to-2 edge in corner kicks.
Babin made four saves in goal for the Minutewomen, while Davidson's Kendall Thomas took the loss making one save.
