Tennis Closes Out Regular Season This Weekend

Minutewomen head to Rhody on Saturday, host Fordham for Senior Day on Sunday.
AMHERST, Mass. - After being off for nearly three weeks, the UMass tennis team returns to action this weekend to close out the regular season schedule. The Minutewomen head to Rhode Island on Saturday morning (11 a.m.) before returning home to host Fordham at the Mullins Center Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon (1 p.m.). Sunday will also be Senior Day with a special pre-match ceremony honoring Brittany Collens, Julia Larson and Anna Woosley. It will also mark the final home match for head coach Judy Dixon who will retire at the conclusion of the season after a fantastic 25-year career with UMass.
The Minutewomen enter the weekend with a 7-7 overall record including a 2-0 mark against Atlantic 10 foes. UMass last played on March 31 taking a narrow 4-3 loss at St. John's. Following the weekend, the Minutewomen will head to the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament in Orlando, Fla., which will be held Wednesday, April 26-30.
In singles play, Collens continues to hold a team-best 17-8 overall record followed by Ana Yrazusta (13-8) and Janja Kovacevic and Woosley who each have 11-9 records. Yrazusta has played particularly well in dual matches this spring with a 10-3 mark. Woosley leads the team in career wins with 59, while Yrazusta is just behind with 50 in three seasons.
Doubles play continues to be a strength of the Minutewomen which boast a 25-12 mark in dual matches. Yrazusta and Kovacevic boast a 10-3 mark in dual match doubles primarily at the No. 2 position. Collens has paired at No. 3 doubles with either Ashley Avery or Laura Moreno for the bulk of the season posting a combined record of 8-4 in dual matches. Moreno and Collens are 4-0 when paired together this year. Ruth Crawford and Woosley have played the bulk of No. 1 doubles with a 12-7 overall mark and a 6-5 record in dual matches.
In UMass' previous A-10 matches, the Minutewomen defeated George Washington, 6-1, on Feb. 11 in Washington, D.C., before picking up a 4-3 win over Davidson on March 17 in Charleston, S.C.
Admission to Sunday's home match is free to all.
