Kris Horn Wins SCSU Decathlon

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – University of Massachusetts men's track and field senior Kris Horn claimed the top spot at the SCSU Decathlon, which wrapped up on Friday at Southern Connecticut. Horn won the event with 6,810 points after entering day two second in the scoring. Two more minutemen, sophomore Jonathan Collins and freshman Hunter Gray, claimed third and fourth, respectively.
 
After taking third in 110m hurdles with a time of 15.72, Horn went on to lead the field in each of the next three events. He won discus with a 128-foot, 3-inch throw, good for 646 points, pole vault with a mark of 14 feet, 1.25 inches for 702 points and javelin with a distance of 178 feet, 11 inches to collect 656 points.
 
Collins' third-place score of 6,291 earned him a spot in UMass' top-five all time, now ranking fifth in program history. He captured second in pole vault at 13 feet, 9.25 inches for 673 points and fourth in 110m hurdles at 16.02 seconds to pick up 730 points.
 
Gray was victorious in both track events on day two to bolster his fourth-place total of 6,237 points. He was first across the line in 110m hurdles, good for 782 points, and won the 1,500m run in 4:45.84 (644 points).
 
The rest of the Minutemen squad will be back in action tomorrow, April 15, when the squad hosts the Minutemen Invitational, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the UMass Track & Field Complex.
