Swimming and Diving Announces 2016-17 Team Awards

Ansley Baker, Emma Roush and Oliver Wyeth named Team MVPs.

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's and women's swimming and diving programs held their annual team banquet this past weekend honoring several outstanding student-athletes with end-of-year awards.

The Minutewomen placed third at the 2017 A-10 Championship meet this past February marking the 13th consecutive season with a fourth-or-better finish.

In addition to presenting the team awards, head coach Bob Newcomb also announced the team captains for the 2017-18 season: rising junior Ansley Baker, rising senior Haley Masi, and rising junior Katie Polk.

Baker was honored as the Team MVP for swimming after setting three school records and posting an NCAA B-cut time in the 100 breast at the Atlantic 10 Championships. She had school records in the 50 and 100 free events with her b-cut time coming in the 100 breast. She was also a member of the school-record setting 200 medley relay team.

On the diving side, Emma Roush was named Team MVP after earning Honorable Mention All-America honors following a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Championships. She was also named the Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Diver following championship wins on the one-meter and three-meter boards.

Maddie Biron was named as the team's Most Improved Performer, while Katie Scordato was honored with the Minuteman Award. Meghan Gray was tabbed the team's Rookie of the Year. Three Minutewomen earned the team's Spike Award - Baker, Olga Egkorova, and Meriza Werenski.
