Roush Title, Two School Records Highlight A-10 Championships Opening Day

Women’s swimming and diving in first place, men’s team in fourth after day one.
GENEVA, Ohio – Emma Roush won her third consecutive one-meter diving title and both the men's and women's 200 medley relay squads set new school records follow the opening day of the Atlantic 10 Championships. The UMass women's swimming and diving team finished the day in first place, while the men's team enters day two in fourth place.

The women's team finished the day with 119 points ahead of Richmond (77), Fordham (74) and Duquesne (74) as the top four teams. Of those 119 points, a total of 63 came from an outstanding performance by the Minutewomen on the one-meter board.

Along with Roush's first-place finish with a 273 point effort in the finals, Maja Boric took third (264.35), Katie Polk placed fifth (253.55) and Julia Jagannath (253.20) finished sixth.

The other two competitions on the day consisted of the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay. The Minutewomen placed fourth in the 200 medley relay with a school-record time of 1:42.62 swum by Maddie Biron, Chelsea Meiring, Rachel Grant and Ansley Baker.

In the 800 free, Meriza Werenski, Hayley Masi , Olga Egkorova, and Jenna Diamond placed sixth with a season-best time of 7 minutes, 28.61 seconds.

The men's opening day consisted of just the two relay events. Overall the Minutemen tallied 60 points for fourth place. St. Bonaventure and Saint Louis both tied for first with 66 points while La Salle sits third with 64 points.

The 200 medley relay team of Kellen Gray, Al Madden, Kyle Stefanides, and Ryan Pedrick set a new program record with a mark of 1:29.32 seconds.

The Minutemen then took fifth in the 800 free relay to close out the night. The quartet of Panos Androulidakis, Eric Pauls, Oliver Wyeth and Chris DiGiacomo posted a time of 6 minutes, 41.47 seconds.
