February 14, 2017 | Women's Basketball

Minutewomen and Spiders set for 7 p.m. tip at the Robins Center.

AMHERST, Mass. - Coming off a road loss at Fordham, the UMass women's basketball team heads south to face Richmond on Wednesday night. The game will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network and carried locally on 91.1 FM WMUA. Wednesday night will also be Richmond's Play4Kay game with the Minutewomen wearing their special pink uniforms on the road.

UMass (9-17, 3-10 A-10) currently sits in 12th place in the Atlantic 10 standings with Richmond  (12-14, 6-7) tied for eighth. With three games remaining during the regular season, UMass still has a chance to host a first-round game for the A-10 Championship Tournament provided the Minutewomen win out and receive help.

In Saturday's loss at Fordham, Ryan Holder led the way with 15 points and tied her career-best with seven boards. Maggie Mulligan added 10 points as the only other double-figure scorer. The Rams used a hot-shooting second half to break open a six-point halftime lead. Fordham hit 10 of its 16 three-pointers after the intermission to hold UMass at bay.

For the season, Hailey Leidel continues to lead the Minutewomen in scoring with 16.1 points a night. The rookie is also the second-leading rebounder on the squad with 6.0 boards. The Brownstown, Mich., native is the second-leading freshman scorer in the NCAA, the top scoring rookie in the A-10 and the third-overall scorer in the league.

Just behind Leidel is Maggie Mulligan who is averaging 13.5 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. The junior is third nationally in double-doubles with 17 this year – four behind NCAA-leader Chantel Osahor. The Boston native ranks second in the league in rebounding average, fourth in blocked shots, and 12th in scoring. Nationally, Mulligan is 10th overall for rebounds per game.

After her career-high effort against Davidson, Alyx Stiff is now the third leading scorer on the team with a career-best 10.9 points per game. Leah McDerment rounds out the Minutewomen's top performers with 5.3 assists per game which ranks third in the league.

The Spiders are led by Janelle Hubbard who averages 14.2 points per game and Micaela Parson who is scoring 11.2 points a night. Lauren Tolson rounds out the top scorers with a 9.3 point average and leads the team in rebounding with 6.6 boards per game. Richmond has split its last six games including a loss last week at Dayton followed by a road win over George Mason.

Following the Richmond game, UMass will return home to host La Salle at the Mullins Center for Senior Night on Sunday, Feb. 19 (12 p.m.) where the Minutewomen will honor Megan Burke and Alyx Stiff prior to the game.
