Women’s Hoops Heads to Fordham on Saturday

Minutewomen and Rams set for 2 p.m. tipoff at Rose Hill Gym.
AMHERST, Mass. – Following an off week from competition, the UMass women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday afternoon (2 p.m.) as the Minutewomen head to Rose Hill Gym to take on Fordham. The game will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network and carried locally on 91.1 FM WMUA.
UMass (9-16, 3-9 A-10) is coming off a tough 63-59 loss at home against Davidson last Saturday afternoon. Alyx Stiff led the Minutewomen with 22 points, while Leah McDerment scored 12 points and Maggie Mulligan added 10 points.
For the season, Hailey Leidel continues to lead the Minutewomen in scoring with 16.4 points a night. The rookie is also the second-leading rebounder on the squad with 6.4 boards. The Brownstown, Mich., native is the second-leading freshman scorer in the NCAA, the top scoring rookie in the A-10 and the third-overall scorer in the league.
Just behind Leidel is Maggie Mulligan who is averaging 13.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. The junior is tied for second nationally in double-doubles with 17 this year – three behind Chantel Osahor – and is tied for the A-10 lead with Fordham's G'Mrice Davis. The Boston native ranks second in the league in rebounding average and 10th in scoring. Nationally, Mulligan is ninth overall for rebounds per game.
After her career-high effort against Davidson, Stiff is now the third leading scorer on the team with 11.1 points per game. Leah McDerment rounds out the Minutewomen's top performers with 5.4 assists per game which ranks third in the league.
The Rams (17-9, 8-4 A-10) are led by Davis who averages 14.7 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. She is followed by Danielle Burns who is scoring 9.6 points a night. Fordham won back-to-back home games against St. Bonaventure last Saturday and Saint Joseph's on Thursday night. That snapped a four-game losing skid for the Rams.
Following the Fordham game, UMass will return to action next Wednesday, Feb. 15 with a trip to Richmond (7 p.m.) before returning to the Mullins Center to host La Salle on Sunday, Feb. 19 (1 p.m.) The game against the Explorers with be the program's Senior Night.
