Minutemen Fall To Colgate In First Round Of NCAA Tournament, 2-0

UMass out-shot the Raiders 15 to eight in the contest.
AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 24-ranked University of Massachusetts men's soccer team fell to Colgate 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on a wet Thursday afternoon at Rudd Field. The Minutemen finished their season as the A-10 regular season and postseason champions with a record of 15-4-3.

Colgate (11-10-1 Overall) put in two first half goals to put the pressure on UMass for the remainder of the match. In the 11th-minute, the Raiders put in the first goal of the afternoon on a shot by Jared Stroud that bounced off the right post past a diving Bardia Asefnia and into the foot of Karl Brown for the goal. Stroud scored near the end of the half in the 38th-minute to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead that would withstand the UMass attack until the final whistle.

The Minutemen attack sped up in the final 45 minutes as UMass out-shot their opponent 8-2 during the span. UMass had multiple chances to pull within one after an Alex DeSantis shot in the 74th-minute started a stretch where the home team took two corner kicks and three shots in the final 16 minutes.

Jack Fulton just missed wide with one of his four shots, coming off the second corner for UMass during the span from Konrad Gorich. Gorich put a shot on target for UMass while Casey Hamill added two on target.
