Smith Earns A-10 Rookie Of The Week Honors For Second Time

Davis Smith earned his second consecutive A-10 Rookie of the Week honor after scoring three goals with an assist for seven points as UMass won two games last week
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's soccer freshman Davis Smith picked up his second Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor in a row this week after scoring three goals and adding an assist for seven points while helping the Minutemen (8-2-2 Overall, 2-0-0 A-10) remain unbeaten at Rudd Field last week with wins over Vermont and league opponent Duquesne.

Smith (Amherst, Mass./Williston Northampton School) extended his goal-scoring streak to four straight matches, beginning with a game-tying goal in the 77th-minute in an eventual 2-1 win against Vermont to close out non-conference play on Tuesday evening. Â
In the A-10 home opener against Duquesne on Saturday afternoon, Smith opened the scoring with a header for a goal in the 16th-minute to put UMass ahead 1-0 in an eventual 5-0 shutout win over the Dukes. Smith added an assist in the 48th-minute off a deep throw, heading a pass to teammate Connor O'Dwyer to put UMass up 3-0. Smith went on to add his second and final goal of the day in the 59th-minute on a sliding score into the back of the net.

On the season, Smith leads UMass with 17 points on seven goals and three assists while adding 16 shots on goal.

UMass returns to the pitch for their second A-10 road contest of the 2017 campaign on Wednesday against Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia, Pa. at 7 p.m. before returning back to Rudd Field to take on La Salle on Saturday at 1 p.m.
