Fall Rowing Schedule Begins At Small Boat Challenge

Minutewomen among three Atlantic 10 programs competing in regatta.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts rowing opens up its fall slate with the Small Boat Challenge in Mercer, New Jersey from Oct. 7-8. UMass is one of three Atlantic 10 programs competing in the regatta, joining Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's. Ithaca and Syracuse also will send members of its crew to race.
Following the Small Boat Challenge, the Minutewomen will continue their five-week fall schedule, hosting the Hadley Chase Regatta along the Connecticut River (Oct. 14) before traveling to the Head of the Charles (Oct. 21-22), the Head of the Fish (Oct. 29) and the Green Monster Regatta (Nov. 5).
Last Time Out: Small Boat Challenge
UMass returns to the Small Boat Challenge after participating in the regatta last year on Nov. 5-6. That weekend was highlighted in part by three medals captured by the Minutewomen, including in the Women's 2-, Women's 1x and Women's 2x. In 2- Final A competition, the boat of Haley York and Zoe Hill earned a third place medal with a time of 7:58.98. Later, Daniella du Toit claimed second in the 1x Final A (8:16.34).
UMass wrapped up the regatta with a first place finish in the 2x Final A, seeing Grace Bundy and Sam Wonderlin turn in a time of 7:39.84, beating out Atlantic 10 rivals Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's.

Weather Forecast
Partly cloudy conditions are expected on Saturday, with temperatures ranging from the low-70s through low-80s and a small chance of rain (10 percent). Winds are expected out of the south at 11 MPH. The forecast changes to rain for Sunday, which will see temperatures between the high-60s and low-80s. Winds will range from 7-10 MPH S/SW.
Hadley Chase Scheduled For Oct. 14
After returning from the Small Boat Challenge, UMass will prepare to host the Hadley Chase Regatta along the Connecticut River on Sat., Oct. 14. The regatta will contain both sweep and sculling events for male and female collegiate teams in the Northeast in addition to open events for masters rowers to compete.
The race course has been mapped to allow spectators to view the last 100 meters ending in front of the docks at the UMass Rowing Boathouse. In addition, ample space for fans will be available on the Norwottuck Rail Trail Bridge. Additional information regarding the Hadley Chase will follow shortly.
