Men’s Soccer Looks To Remain Unbeaten At Home Saturday Against La Salle

The Minutemen own a 7-0-1 record at Rudd Field, outscoring their opponents 19-4 at home
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts men's soccer team looks to remain unbeaten at Rudd Field on Saturday as they are scheduled to take on Atlantic 10 opponent La Salle at 1 p.m. The Minutemen (8-2-3 Overall, 2-0-1 A-10) head into the match on a seven-match unbeaten streak dating back to Sept. 16 and own a 15-5-5 record over their last 25 contests. Admission to Saturday's contest is free.
UMass owns a 7-0-1 record this season at Rudd Field, outscoring the competition 19-4 at home and 25-12 on the year. Last time out on their home grass, the Minutemen put together a 5-0 rout of Duquesne on Alumni Day with two goals from Davis Smith and one each from Christian Labeck, Connor O'Dwyer and Samuel Asamoah.
The Minutemen picked up a road result on Wednesday against Saint Joseph's, rallying from down a goal twice to earn a 2-2 draw. Jack Fulton scored the lone goal for UMass in the win on an assist from goalkeeper Bardia Asefnia in the 85th-minute. Fulton's goal marked the third of the season for the junior, who ranks third on the team this season with seven points. Asefnia added four saves on 18 shots faced in the game and currently sits at 40 saves on the year with two solo shutouts and a combined shutout.
Smith and Alex DeSantis lead the Minutemen in points as the freshman Smith has scored a team-leading seven goals for 17 points while DeSantis has posted five goals and four assists for 14 points. Smith, the reigning two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week, came into the week tied for 24th-nationally in points and 26th in goals.
UMass owns a 13-2-2 all-time advantage over La Salle (5-7-1 Overall, 1-3-0 A-10) with their last win against the Explorers coming by way of a 2-1 win at Rudd Field in 2015 with both teams splitting the last two matches as the home teams came out on top. La Salle heads into Saturday's contest off a 5-3 home win over George Washington on Wednesday after dropping their first three league matches.
The Minutemen will remain at home as they near the stretch of the end of the regular season with a match against Rhode Island on Wednesday at 3 p.m. before hitting the road for two of their final three matches at Dayton and George Mason.
