Women's Hoops Heads to Saint Joseph's on Saturday

Minutewomen look to even up Atlantic 10 record following win over Rhody.
AMHERST, Mass. - Coming off a thrilling win over Rhode Island on Wednesday night, the UMass women's basketball team heads back on the road to take on Saint Joseph's this Saturday afternoon. The Minutewomen look to even their Atlantic 10 record after Wednesday's first league victory of the year.
UMass enters the contest with a 7-9 overall record and a 1-2 mark in the A-10, while the Hawks are 3-11 overall and 0-2 in league play after Wednesday's loss at George Washington. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network. Fans can also listen to the game locally on 91.1 FM WMUA.
In Wednesday's win over URI, the Minutewomen overcame a three-point deficit late in the fourth quarter and used a Ryan Holder steal with 1.2 seconds remaining to seal the win. The game featured 14 lead changes and three ties as it came down to the wire. Freshman Hailey Leidel scored a game-high 27 points, while junior Maggie Mulligan had 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Minutewomen were able to use one of their best three-point shooting nights of the season with a 9-of-17 performance to hold off the Rams.
Leidel continues to lead UMass in scoring with a 17.2 point per game average, while also adding 5.4 rebounds. She is followed by Mulligan who is scoring at a 14.4 point clip and leading the Minutewomen with 12.1 rebounds. Holder is averaging 11.1 points a night, while Alyx Stiff has been strong offensively with a 9.5 points an outing bolstered by 14.5 points averaged the last two games.
In the Atlantic 10, Leidel is the league's top scoring rookie and ranks third overall. She also leads the league in three-pointers made with 45 and ranks fourth in steals (2.0/game). Mulligan ranks ninth overall in scoring and is narrowly second in rebounds, while ranking third in blocked shots. Junior Leah McDerment ranks third in the A-10 for assists with 5.5 per game average recording nine in the win over Rhode Island.
Nationally, Leidel also continues to rank as the No. 2 scoring rookie in the NCAA just behind Nadine Soliman of UNC Greensboro. She also ranks 18th nationally in three-pointers made and is ninth in minutes played per game (37.8). Mulligan ranks third overall nationally in rebounding and is tied for the NCAA lead in double doubles (12) with Chantel Osahor of Washington.
The Hawks have a trio of players in double figures this season led by Chelsea Woods who scores 14 points a game while also lead SJU with 7.5 rebounds a night. Adashia Franklyn averages 11.9 points followed by Alyssa Managhan who is scoring 11.1 points per game. Since defeating NJIT on Dec. 13, Saint Joseph's has lost five consectuive games including road match-ups at Richmond and against the Colonials.
