Minutewomen and Billikens set for 7 p.m. tip on Wednesday night at Mullins Center.
AMHERST, Mass. - Coming off another nail-bitting finish, the UMass women's basketball team returns to the Mullins Center for a two-game homestand starting Wednesday night against Saint Louis (7 p.m.). The game against the Billikens will be streamed online via the Atlantic 10 Digital Network and broadcast locally on 91.1 FM WMUA.
The Minutewomen fell on the road last Saturday at VCU despite a late come-back attempt. Trailing by many as 11 points in the third quarter, UMass rallied in the fourth to make it a one-point game with four seconds to go. The Minutewomen had a chance to get off a shot on an in-bounds play next to their bench with 0.1 seconds remaining, but the clock ran out before Hailey Leidel could let loose the attempt.
After a pair of double-doubles last week, Leidel continues to lead UMass in scoring this season with 16.8 points per game while also averaging 6.0 rebounds. Maggie Mulligan is second in scoring with 13.5 points a night while also hauling down 11.4 rebounds per game. Alyx Stiff (10.6 points) and Ryan Holder (10.1 points) round out UMass' top scoring leaders with Stiff having averaged 13.5 points over the last four games.
In the A-10, UMass is currently in 12th in the standings, while Saint Louis (17-5, 7-2 A-10) is second overall.
Leidel continues to lead all A-10 rookies in scoring and is third overall. She leads the league in three-pointers made (64) which is the fourth-most in a single-season at UMass. The freshman also ranks fifth in the league in steals (2.0). Mulligan ranks 12th overall in scoring, is second in rebounds per game, and ranks third in blocked shots (1.8). Leah McDerment rounds out the league leaders for the Minutewomen ranking third in assists with 5.3 per game.
Nationally, Mulligan continues to rank second nationally in double-doubles with 16 - just two behind Washington's Chantel Osahor. Her 11.4 rebounds per game ranks fifth overall in the NCAA. Leidel is tied as the NCAA's No. 1 rookie scorer alongside UNC Greensboro's Nadine Soliman. Her 64 three-pointers made are tied for 22nd nationally.
Saint Louis is coming off a pair of wins over George Washington and Fordham entering Wednesday's match-up.
