Minutewomen unable to generate consistent offense in loss to Bonnies.

AMHERST, Mass. - A sluggish start offensively for the UMass women's basketball team led to a 55-38 loss to visiting St. Bonaventure on Thursday morning at the Mullins Center. The annual Field Trip Day for area schools drew a season-high 2,650 in attendance.

The loss, just UMass' second at home this year, drops the Minutewomen to 9-11 overall and 3-4 in the Atlantic 10, while the Bonnies improved to 7-12 overall and 2-5 in league play. UMass will host George Washington on Saturday afternoon (3 p.m.) as part of a double-header with the men's team to wrap up a three-game home stand.

Alyx Stiff and Leah McDerment led the Minutewomen with 11 points each. Leading scorers Hailey Leidel and Maggie Mulligan were each limited to just six points.

The Bonnies were led by Mariah Ruff who had a game-high 17 points along with six assists and seven rebounds. Gabby Richmond had nine points and seven rebounds.

St. Bonaveture opened up a one-point game with a 12-to-2 run in the second quarter taking a 26-18 lead into halftime. Despite the Minutewomen holding St. Bona to just two points and no field goals in a seven-minute stretch of the third quarter, UMass was unable to cut into the eight-point deficit.

In the fourth, a three-point play by McDerment pulled UMass within seven, but Sarah Hart hit a three-pointer on the ensuing possession driving the lead back to double-figures. A Stiff three-pointer just over a minute later again brought the lead back within nine, but the Bonnies answered again with a jumper by Jalisha Terry to spark nine straight for the road team pushing the lead to 52-34 with 2:09 remaining.

Overall, St. Bonaventure shot 45.8 percent for the game while holding UMass to 33.3 percent from the floor including 3-of-13 from beyond the arc. As in previous games, the Minutewomen were also unable to get to the free throw line with just six attempts on the day.
