Minutewomen Look To Keep A-10 Championship Momentum Going
February 16, 2016 | Women's Swimming & Diving
AMHERST, Mass. - Over the last three seasons, the UMass women’s swimming and diving team has shown to be one of the top programs in the Atlantic 10. In 2013 and 2015, the Minutewomen finished the four-day event as runner-ups. In 2014, UMass took third.
This Wednesday, head coach Bob Newcomb’s squad looks to keep that momentum going as the Minutewomen head to Geneva, Ohio to kick-off the 2016 edition of the Atlantic 10 Championships.
The meet will start at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the SPIRE Institute with each day being streamed live for free on the Atlantic 10 Digital Network. Live results will also be available for each round of competition.
Thursday through Saturday will all begin with preliminary competition starting at 10 a.m., while the finals start at 6:30 p.m.
Through the bulk of the regular season, Cassie Sosnovich has turned in several top performances among Atlantic 10 competitors this season. She enters the week holding top-10 rankings in the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 fly.
Mereiza Werenski ranks among the leaders in both the 200 and 400 individual medley relays, while Katherine Orr and Stephanie Campo are two of the top distance freestylers in the league.
Coach Mandy Hixon’s trio of divers will also look to be a key part of the championship week as Emma Roush, Katie Polk and Julia Jagannath all rank among the league leaders in both the one-meter and three-meter events.
All told, UMass has 19 performances this year among the top-10 in the league with several more just below that cutline.
Along with its lead performers, a few big-time performances could very well keep UMass in the hunt for the A-10 title.
