Minutewomen take on Boston University Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

AMHERST, Mass. - Coming off a win over Bryant at home last Saturday, the UMass women's basketball team heads back on the road Wednesday night when the Minutewomen take on Bay State rival Boston University at Case Gym. The game is set for a 7 p.m. tip-off and will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network. The game will also be broadcast locally on 91.1 FM WMUA.

In Saturday's win, UMass (5-5) used a 16-to-0 run in the fourth quarter to take charge of a back-and-forth contest with the Bulldogs. The game featured six ties and seven lead changes before the decisive run. Leah McDerment posted the second-most assists for a single game in program history with 14, while Hailey Leidel scored a game-high 23 points thanks to a 5-for-5 effort beyond the three-point line. Ryan Holder rounded out the top performers for the Minutewomen with 16 points, eight assists, four rebounds and two blocked shots.

Leidel enters the week as the leading rookie scorer in the NCAA with a team-best 16.8 points per game. She also averages six rebounds per game and 2.2 steals per night. The Brownstown, Mich., native is the top scoring freshman in the Atlantic 10 and ranks third overall. Leidel also leads the league in three-pointers made (26) and minutes played (38.4) and ranks fourth overall in steals.

Just behind Leidel is Maggie Mulligan who is averaging a double-double for the year as one of the most improved players in the country. The junior center is scoring at a 14.7 point per game clip while hauling down 12.1 rebounds per game. The Boston native ranks fifth overall in scoring and is narrowly second in rebounding among the Atlantic 10 leaders. Her 2.3 blocked shots per game is also second in the league. Nationally, Mulligan ranks fourth in rebounding while her eight double-doubles this season ranks second - just one behind Chantel Osahor of Washington.

Holder rounds out the top three scorers for the Minutewomen with a 12.9 point per game average. The versatile guard is also averaging 4.2 rebounds and is second on the team in blocked shots with 1.4 per night. She ranks 13th overall in A-10 scoring and is seventh in blocked shots per game.

McDerment's 14 assists against Bryant moved her into third overall in the A-10. That total was the 11th-best for a single-game in league history and bumped her average up to 6.2 per outing. That average ranks McDerment 23rd in the NCAA entering the week's action.

The Terriers enter the match-up with a 1-9 record and have lost five straight including a 76-57 decision at Marist last Saturday. Boston University is led offensively by Sarah Hope and Sophie Beaudry who average 11 and 10 points, respectively. Beaudry also leads the Terriers in rebounding with a 6.1 average.

Following the short road trip, UMass will return home to host Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon (2 p.m.) at the Mullins Center. The game will feature a Holiday Party theme with free hot cocoa and cookies for fans.
