Minutewomen and Warriors set for 2 p.m. tip-off

AMHERST, Mass. - Seeking its third straight win, the UMass women's basketball team will host Merrimack on Sunday afternoon at the Mullins Center. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. and the game will be streamed online via the Atlantic 10 Digital Network.

The Minutewomen (3-2) are coming off a 76-37 win over Central Connecticut on Wednesday afternoon to improve to 2-0 at the Mullins Center this year. The season-low 37 points allowed now ranks UMass as the No. 1 scoring defense in the Atlantic 10 with the Minutewomen allowing just 57.0 points per game.

The highlight of Wednesday's win was a career-high 33 points from junior center Maggie Mulligan who also recorded her fourth straight double-double with a career-best 15 rebounds. Mulligan's scoring effort is tied as the fifth-best single-game performance in program history.

For the season, Mulligan is now averaging a team-best 16.2 points a game after averaging 28.5 points in the wins over Montana and CCSU. She now ranks fourth in the A-10 for scoring this season and is second in rebounding with 11.0 per contest.

Mulligan is followed by freshman Hailey Leidel who ranks eighth in the A-10 with a 15.2 point average. Leidel is the top ranks rookie scorer in the league and also leads the league in steals with 3.4 per night.

Rounding out UMass' scoring leaders is freshman Ryan Holder who averages 11.0 points a game. Junior guard Leah McDerment has been the key cog to the offensive attack highlighted by a career-high nine assists versus Central Connecticut. McDerment ranks fourth overall in the A-10 with 5.2 assists per game.

Merrimack (2-3) enters the match-up coming off a 67-60 win over Stonehill on Tuesday which snapped a two-game losing skid. The Warriors are led by Hannah Neild and Lindsay Werner who both average 13.0 points per game. Of Merrimack's three loses this year, two were decided by three-or-fewer points.

Following Sunday's game, UMass will next be in action on Wednesday night (7 p.m.) at Hartford before returning to the Mullins Center to host Atlantic 10 foe George Mason on Sunday, Dec. 4 (1 p.m.).
