Women's Hoops Hosts Central Connecticut for Wednesday Matinee

Minutewomen and Blue Devils set for 2 p.m. tip-off.
AMHERST, Mass. - Coming off a pair of wins last week against North Dakota State and Montana and a loss to Iowa, the UMass women's basketball team returns to the Mullins Center on Wednesday afternoon (2 p.m.) to host Central Connecticut State. The game will be the first of two at home for the Minutewomen this week as they will also host Merrimack on Sunday afternoon.
UMass (2-2) is led offensively by freshman Hailey Leidel who is averaging 15 points a game and junior Maggie Mulligan who has increased her scoring productivity to a career-best 12 points an outing. Mulligan has three consecutive double-doubles after Sunday's 24 point, 15 rebound performance against Montana. Leidel scored 18 points against the Lady Griz including the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer. Also in double figure scoring for the Minutewomen is freshman Ryan Holder who averages 10.3 points per contest.
In the Atlantic 10, Leidel ranks fifth overall in scoring average as the top-ranked rookie scorer. Mulligan moved up to No. 17 on the scoring list after averaging 17.5 points last weekend at the Hawkeye Challenge. With 10.8 rebounds per game, Mulligan also ranks third in the Atlantic 10, while fellow junior Leah McDerment ranks seventh in assists per game (4.3). The versatile freshman Leidel also leads the league in steals per game with 3.8 on the young season.
CCSU (1-2) is led by Aleah Epps and Andi Lydon who average 16.3 points and 10.0 points, respectively. Lydon also averages 11.7 rebounds, while both Epps and Giocelis Reynoso average nine boards a game. In three games, the Blue Devils are averaging 62.3 points per game on 32.5 percent shooting from the field.
