January 14, 2016 | Men's Swimming & Diving
AMHERST, Mass. - Both the UMass men's and women's swimming teams will return to action this Saturday as the squads head to Bryant on Saturday afternoon for a dual meet starting at Noon.
The Minutewomen will be looking to build off last weekend's 159-140 win over Rhode Island, while the men's squad will be back in the pool for the first time since the fall portion of the schedule concluded just prior to Thanksgiving.
In the win over the Rams last weekend, the women's team was led by Meriza Werenski who won four individual events. A total of four different Minutewomen won multiple events in the meet with Katie Orr, Cassie Sosnovich, and Julia Jagannath each winning a pair of events.
For the season, the women's team has nine swimmers with times among the top-10 performances in the Atlantic 10.
Sosnovich ranks 3rd in the 100 fly, 4th in the 100 free, and 8th in the 50 free.
In the 1,650 free, Orr and Stephanie Camp rank 4th and 6th, respectively. Dasha Egkorova ranks 10th in the 100 back, while Rachel Grant ranks 9th in the 100 fly.
Ansley Baker and Mary Cohen rank 6th and 9th in the 100 breast, while Meriza Werenski ranks 4th in the 400 IM and 9th in 200 IM. Rounding out the group is Diamond who ranks 6th in the 400 IM.
For the men, a total of 19 individuals rank among the league's top-10 performers for the season.
A pair of Minutemen hold top-10 performances in four different events as Connar Patterson and Heath Maginn have impressed with their versatility in the first half of the season. Patterson holds top-10 times in the 100 back, the 100 fly, the 200 fly, and the 200 IM. Maginn has already turned in top-10 performances in the 200 back, the 200 fly, the 200 IM, and the 400 IM.
Owen Wright, Brian Stiles, Alessandro Bomprezzi, Kyle Vieira, Oliver Wyeth, and Kyle Stefanides all rank among the league's top swimmers in three different events.
Following the dual meet at Bryant this weekend, both swimming and diving programs will head to the Dartmouth Invitational on Jan. 22-23 (Friday-Saturday) in Hanover, N.H.
