UMass Baseball Blanked By George Mason, 3-0

FAIRFAX, Va. - Redshirt senior Rob McLam registered a pair of singles for the Minutemen's only two hits of the day as the UMass baseball team was shut out, 3-0 at George Mason on Friday. The loss leaves the Minutemen at 15-27 overall 11-12 in the Atlantic 10, while the Patriots improve to 23-26-1 and 12-11 in the conference.
In a contest where neither side advanced a runner past first base until the sixth, George Mason broke the scoreless deadlock in the bottom half of the inning. Luke Willis drew a one-out walk, moved to third on an error and scored an RBI groundout by Kent Blackstone. Following the second walk of the frame, Brady Acker plated Brandon Gum, who reached on the error, with a single to right that increased the score to 2-0.
The Patriots added their third of the afternoon in the bottom of the eighth. Gum drew a one-out walk, advanced to third following singles by Blackstone and Tyler Nelin, and crossed the plate on a fielder's choice ground ball by Acker.
Despite a solid outing, senior Conor LeBlanc took the loss (2-3). He allowed three runs, just one earned, on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts, throwing all eight innings. John Williams picked up the win (7-5) for George Mason, tossing the complete game two-hit shutout with no walks and nine strikeouts.
The teams will wrap up the season tomorrow with game three of the series at Noon, moved up from a 1 p.m. start due to an unfavorable forecast.
