April 24, 2015 | Baseball
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The UMass baseball team plated three runs in the top of the first, but Florida Gulf Coast stormed back with 18 runs on 20 hits to hand the Minutemen an 18-5 setback on Friday evening. Following the loss, UMass is now 11-17 on the year, while the Eagles improve to 21-19-1.
The Minutemen opened the contest with three straight base hits with singles by sophomore Bryce Maher and redshirt senior Kyle Adie, followed by an RBI double from redshirt senior by redshirt senior Rob McLam. Sophomore Mike Geannelis plated Adie with a ground ball and, with two away, sophomore Dylan Morris singled to center to drive in McLam.

The Eagles began to pull away with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the third, including an unearned pair that helped push their lead to 7-3.
Florida Gulf Coast increased the margin to 14-3 with seven runs on seven hits in the bottom of the sixth.
UMass scored its fourth run of the day in the top of the seventh when Maher was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in Morris.
The Eagles then added three more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth before the Minutemen capped off the scoring with Mike Hart coming home on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth.
