November 13, 2015 | Men's Swimming & Diving
AMHERST, Mass. - Coming off a nearly three-week break from competition, the UMass swimming and diving teams return to action this Saturday with a dual meet at Brown (1 p.m.) in Providence, R.I. This will mark the final dual meet of the fall for both teams before finishing the semester at the Terrier Invitational next weekend.
The teams are coming off a split dual meet against Boston University at Joseph R. Rogers Pool back on Oct. 24 with the men picking up a 176-122 win and the women falling 166-129. The divers competed at UConn last Saturday in an un-scored competition which saw several season-best marks posted.
For the Minutewomen, Emma Roush continues to lead the divers having placed first on both the one-meter and three-meter boards all season with the exception of the UConn competition.
In the pool, Rebecca Quirie, Cassie Sosnovich, Meriza Werenski and Jocelyn Yuen continue to lead the Minutewomen with top times in several events.
Sosnovich has the top times in the 50 free (24.78 seconds) and the 100 free (53.90 seconds), while Quirie has the team's best marks in the 100 back (58.98 seconds) and the 200 back (2:09.62). Werenski leads the 200 breast event (2:28.84) and the 200 IM (2:10.39), while Yuen has the top time in the 100 IM (1:00.31), 100 fly (58.82) and 200 fly (2:08.31).
For the Minutemen, Owen Wright and Oliver Wyeth continue to pace the squad with Alessandro Bomprezzi and Kyle Stefanides adding quality points as well. On the boards, Trent Kindvall continues his impressive sophomore season, while Nolan Burns has been strong in both events as well.
Against Boston University, Wyeth set a new pool record and a dual meet record for the men's program with a time of 49.42 seconds in the 100 back. Wright turned in the ninth-fastest time in program history with his win in the 50 free at 20.69 seconds. Both swimmers combined for six first place finishes in individual events along with a pair of relay wins to lead the Minutemen.
Bomprezzi is the Minutemen's top performer in the distance free events with a top time of 16:41.20 in the 1,650 free.
This will be just the second event for Brown this season after both teams fell to Brown last weekend on the road.
