The UMass swimming and diving teams return to competition this Saturday, Oct. 24 (1 p.m.) when Boston University visits Joseph R. Rogers Pool for dual meet action. Both Terrier programs enter the weekend with a 2-0 record, while both UMass squads fell last week at Army in the first dual meet of the season.
Though the Minutemen and Minutewomen took a loss last weekend, both programs showed progress in several events posting season-high times. On the men's side, UMass saw improvement from week one to week two in eight different events. The Minutewomen saw season-best times in four different events.
The Minutemen continue to be led by Owen Wright, Oliver Wyeth, Alessandro Bomprezzi and Kyle Stefanides in the pool. Trent Kindvall and Nolan Burns also remain solid on the boards for UMass as well.
Wright currently holds the top times this season in the 50 free (20.94 seconds), the 100 free (46.47 seconds), and the 200 free (1:44.78). Wyeth leads the Minutemen in the 500 free (4:36.71) and the 100 back (51.26 seconds). Stefanides holds the top times in the 100 fly (52.10 seconds) and the 200 IM (1:58.87).
On the women's side, Cassie Sosnovich, Stephanie Campo, Rebecca Quirie, Meriza Werenski and Jocelyn Yuen have been the Minutewomen's top performers in the pool, while Emma Roush, Julia Jaganath and Katie Polk have led the divers.
Sosnovich holds the top times in the 50 free (24.78 seconds) and the 100 free (53.99 seconds), while Campo has been strong in the 500 free (5:13.96) and 1,650 free (17:57.20). Quirie has the top times this season in the 100 back (59.76 seconds) and the 200 back (2:12.45), while Werenski holds the fastest time in the 200 breast (2:29.70), the 200 IM (2:10.39), and the 400 IM (4:34.95). Yuen leads UMass in the 100 fly (58.82 seconds) and the 200 fly (2:08.96).
On the boards, Roush is perfect on the season with a pair of first place finishes in both the 1-meter dive and 3-meter dives. Jagannath and Polk have battled each other for second and third in both events this season flip-flopping positions between the two prior meets.
