Four UMass Swimming & Diving Athletes Earn Weekly Awards

Michael Glenn and Molly Smyth have been named the Co-UMass Athletes of the Week, as announced by the Sports Luncheon Committee.
This week's luncheon will be hosted on Wednesday, Jan. 13 in the Massachusetts Room on the third floor of the Mullins Center, beginning at Noon.
Guest speakers include men's basketball head coach Derek Kellogg and women's basketball assistant coach Jen MacAuley. The program will begin near 12:15 p.m. and parking is available behind the Mullins Center using Mullins Way. A salad-to-dessert buffet will be served for $14 per person.
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Massachusetts' Michael Glenn and Richmond's Irina Chiulli were named the Atlantic 10 Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving Performers of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. Also honored were Massachusetts' Trent Kindvall, who was named the Men's Rookie of the Week, and Emma Roush, who was named the Women's Rookie of the Week. Awards were based off meet performances from Jan. 5- 11.
Glenn, a senior from Overland Park, Kan., won the 400-yd individual medley (4:09.50) and both the 100-yd breaststroke (58.42) and the 200-yd breaststroke (2:08.29) to score 39 points for the Minutemen as they captured the Rhode Island Invitational. Glenn was also a member of the 400-yd medley relay team that started the meet off with a victory.
Chiulli, a sophomore from Westwood, Mass., posted an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 294.40 on the 3-meter springboard against Virginia Tech this past weekend. She also recorded a score of 277.30 in the 1-meter springboard earlier that day that bested her Zone qualifying score from earlier this year. She currently leads the A-10 women in both events.
Kindvall, a freshman from Westminster, Colo., swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at the Rhode Island Invitational. Kindvall recorded a score of 271.70 to finish first the 3-meter springboard and a score of 291.20 to capture the 1-meter springboard.
Roush, a freshman from Overland Park, Kan., won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions at the Rhode Island Invitational, competing against George Washington and Rhode Island. Her 1-meter score was 261.65 and her 3-meter score was 274.50.
