UMass Claims First Ever Terrier Invitational Crown

BOSTON - The Massachusetts women's swimming & diving team led from wire-to-wire to capture their first-ever Terrier Invitational crown over the weekend.
UMass scored 1090 points, well ahead of Boston University in second place with 941.5 points. Boston College was third with 735.5, Army was fourth with 622 and Fairfield was fifth with 126.
Senior Molly Smyth got Sunday's championship finals off to a great start with a school record swim in the 1650 Freestyle. Her times of 10:08.04 in the 1000 and 16:48.17 broke her own records at UMass and are the top times in the Atlantic 10 this season.
Katie Orr finished with a 17:27.54 which ranks second in the A-10 behind Smyth.
The Minutewomen went 2-3-4 in the 200 Backstroke, led by Rebecca Quirie's 2:03.54. Dasha Egkorova (2:04.56) and Jenna Diamond (2:06.18) also scored points in the finals.
Cassandra Sosnovich swam a career-best 51.43 to capture the 100 Freestyle and post the seventh-fastest time in the A-10 this year. School record holder Zoe Judd was fourth on Sunday with a 51.61, slotting her one space behind Sosnovich in the A-10 ladder.
UMass will be off until its January training trip to Puerto Rico on Jan. 3.
