UMass' Keys, Schwartz Named To Atlantic 10 All-Conference Teams
November 12, 2014 | Men's Soccer
AMHERST, Mass. - Massachusetts men's soccer standouts Matt Keys and Josh Schwartz were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Teams as announced by the league on Wednesday.
Keys earned First Team honors at defense and Schwartz was named to the All-Academic Team.
Keys has been the starting center back all four years at UMass and finished the 2014 season with two goals and was an integral part of keeping opposing attackers out of the attacking third. The Minutemen had two shutouts this season and posted 13 since 2011, when the Norfolk, Mass. native was named to the league's All-Rookie Team.
He is the first all-conference first team selection at UMass since Ben Arikian in 2009 and the 28tt Minutemen choice in league history.
Schwartz collected his second-consecutive academic award after leading the team in scoring and goals for the third-straight year. In 2014, the biology major from Annapolis, Md. Finished with five goals and five assists - both of which ranked in the top 10 in the A-10's final regular-season statistics.
He carries a 3.96 grade point average and earlier this month was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-Region team for the third time and is in contention for a second Academic All-America honor.
Schwartz is the first Maroon and White player to collect back-to-back academic league honors since Zack Simmons was a 3-time honoree from 2006-08.
