The third installment of a weekly series where UMass Athletics catches up with members of the Swimming & Diving teams for a Question & Answer session! Next on the blocks is Katie Scordato.

Katie is a sophomore Psychology major from Bellefonte, Pa.

How would you describe this team in regards to personality and work ethic?
"Everyone works really hard. We give 100% in the pool every day, even twice a day sometimes. There's definitely a variety of personalities but we mesh very well, so it works."

Who are some of your teammates that best fit that description of personality and work ethic?
"I would have to say Meriza or Jocelyn. They stick out in my mind and keep everyone focused on the task at hand."

In what ways have you grown at UMass?
"I've definitely become a harder worker and I push myself to see how far I can go, academically and in the pool."

How would you describe your coach Newcomb?
"He's very patient because there are so many different personalities and he's on a different spectrum, but he's very understanding of the many quirks of our different personalities."

How would coach Newcomb describe you?
"Probably loud and maybe obnoxious, but I don't think he'd secretly tell someone that. He's too nice."

What are some of your earliest memories of swimming and diving?
"It was fun during the shorter events and when you get so a certain age limit you have to do the longer ones and I remember being really scared for the longer ones, but now I still miss the shorter ones."

Did you play any other sports growing up?
"I played soccer until middle school. I danced, but that ended in elementary school. Then, it was just swimming."

Who is the best singer and who is the best dancer on the team?
"Carly (Biron) definitely takes best dancer and best singer, no doubt. That girl has a voice and can move."

Who is the funniest on the team?
"Probably Sophie (Hornby), she's hilarious."

Who is the most intense while competing?
"Probably Rebecca (Quirie)... Definitely Rebecca."

Where do you like to hang out on campus?
"My dorm room or in Boyden in the locker room."

What piece of advice would you give a young person about being successful in life?
"If you work hard it will get you anywhere. You just need to have the right mentality to do it, but I think you can do anything."
