AMHERST, Mass. - Dayton scored four first-half goals and held on to defeat the Massachusetts men's soccer team, 4-1, at Rudd Field on Friday.

UMass moved to 1-10-1 overall and 0-2-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while UD improved to 6-3-3 and 2-0-1.

The Minutemen finished with nine shots and held a 8-4 edge in the second half.

The UMass goal was credited to Peter Alvarenga after his shot attempt in the 84th minute caromed off a Dayton defender and into the goal.

Alvarenga led all players with a game-high five shots.

Dayton got on the board first when Rafael Gamboa scored on a hard angle into the right side of the goal at 16:18. James Haupt had the eventual game-winner just over three minutes later when he scored from 10 yards out at 19:40.

Greg Enstone was the beneficiary of passes from Haupt and Amass Amankona in the 31st minute for his third goal of the year.

The Flyers registered their final goal with 6:37 left in the half on a Amankona penalty kick.

UD took 14 shots in the game.

Both Ryan Buckingham and Taylor Culp played 45 minutes for UMass.

UMass will have a quick turnaround as it travels to No. 20 Saint Louis for a 2 p.m. Central Time contest on Sunday at Hermann Stadium.
