AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass hockey program has added 6-0, 190-pound forward Ray Pigozzi from Evanston, Ill., to its 2013-14 roster, head coach John Micheletto announced on Wednesday. Pigozzi, who most recently played for the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League (USHL), joins Brennan Baxandall, Marc Hetnik, Steven Iacobellis, Brandon Wahlin and Alex Wakaluk as the sixth member of the Minutemen's Class of 2017.

"Ray comes to us with a tremendously gifted skill set, hands and speed," said Micheletto. "We're certainly excited add him to the mix as a guy that is going to continue to push our competitive metabolism as well as add to our offensive production."

Pigozzi appeared in 147 career games over three seasons in the USHL, splitting time between the Des Moines Buccaneers (2010-12) and the Chicago Steel (2012-13), totaling 76 career points on 20 goals and 56 assists. With the Steel in 2012-13, he enjoyed his most productive season of junior hockey, compiling 34 points (8g, 26a) over 53 games.

In 2011, Pigozzi was a member of the Team USA squad that took home a bronze medal at the World Junior A Challenge and contributed a goal and an assist over five games. He was selected to play in the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in 2012.

In 2009-10, Pigozzi played midget hockey for Chicago Mission U16 and posted 30 points (11g, 19a) over 20 games.
