LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- The Massachusetts men's soccer team lost at Siena, 3-1, at the Siena Turf Field on Wednesday.
UMass moves to 2-3-2 on the season. The Minutemen took six shots on the day. Siena improved to 3-4 and had 25 shots.
Siena got on the board twice in the first half. James Beeston collected a blocked shot and scored late in the 13th minute for a 1-0 Saints edge. The home squad extended its lead at the 26:10 mark on a line drive from the right corner of the 18-yard box by Nils Weddig.
The Minutemen answered with a goal by Josh Schwartz in the 61st minute when he and Jake Murphy executed a perfect give-and-go where his shot from 20 yards out deflected in off the post for his third score of the season.
Siena put home an insurance goal at the 76:55 mark when Tom Allen tapped the ball into the goal following a loose ball when Brian Frame wasn't able to corral an initial attempt in heavy traffic.
Frame finished with a career-high nine saves. Siena's Damian Liesemann did not stop any shots.
UMass will return home on Saturday and play host to Dartmouth (3-3) in its first game at Rudd Field in just over two weeks. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and admission is free.
