AMHERST, Mass. - UMass baseball sophomore infielder Rob McLam was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. The award is a career first for McLam, who becomes the fourth Minuteman to earn an A-10 weekly award this season.
McLam hit safely in all three of UMass' games last week, helping the Minutemen sweep George Washington for the first time since 1995 by batting a team-high .636 (7-for-11) in the series. He totaled four RBI and six runs scored over the three games with at least one run and one driven in each contest. In UMass' 6-3 win that clinched the squad's Atlantic 10 Tournament berth, McLam drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning and finished the afternoon a perfect 4-for-4.
On the season, McLam is batting a team-leading .333 (30-for-90) with 17 RBI, 15 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 31 games.
