AMHERST, Mass. - The Massachusetts men's soccer team returns to the Pioneer Valley this weekend looking to grab some momentum in the second weekend of Atlantic 10 Conference action. The Minutemen will play host to Saint Joseph's Friday at 3 p.m. and Temple Sunday at 1 p.m. Both games will be at Rudd Field on campus with free admission.
UMass enters the home weekend having dropped its last two contests, possessing a 3-5-2 overall record and 0-1 in A-10 action.
Saint Joseph's brings a 4-7 mark into Friday's contest. The Hawks are winless in their first two conference games, falling at home to St. Bonaventure, 4-2, and to Duquesne, 2-1 in overtime. The Hawks have netted 14 goals while averaging nearly 14 shots per game. They have allowed 22 scores on 17.1 boots per match. Goalkeeper Andrew D'Ottavi has collected 49 saves on the year, placing him 41st in the nation.
UMass leads the all-time series with the Hawks 16-4-2, including an 8-0-2 mark since 1999.
On Sunday, UMass will play host to Temple in a game televised locally on CBS 3 Now.
The Owls enter their weekend - which gets underway at Rhode Island on Friday night - with a 6-4-1 ledger, having won three-consecutive contests and five of their last six. Jared Martinelli leads the strong Owl attack with 19 points on six goals and seven assists. He ranks 15th nationally in scoring and fifth in assists.
The UMass-Temple series is nearly even as the Minutemen hold a 11-10-2 advantage following their 1-0 win in Philadelphia two years ago. The teams did not meet last season.
