AMHERST, Mass. - UMass men's swimming freshman Chris Inglis received an honorable mention, Tuesday, in the Collegeswimming.com Mid-Major All-American team selections. Inglis was one of 118 men to receive an honorable mention, while only eight were named to the first team. Honorable mention selections are swimmers who were entered with NCAA 'B' standards, but not selected for the 2011 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships.
The Mashpee, Mass. native was superb in his freshman campaign for the Minutemen. He was able to capture gold at the Atlantic 10 Championship in the 1650 free with a time of 15:34.64. It was this time that met the NCAA `B' standard. He also took third in both the 200 fly (1:52.63) and the 400 IM (3:58.86).
It was his consistent performance throughout the year, however, that landed him being named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year and UMass Rookie of the Year.
Inglis now sits first all-time in UMass history in the 1000 free (9:23.55), 1650 free (15:34.64) and as a member of the 800 free relay team (6:35.92).
