AMHERST, Mass. - A pair of quick second half goals proved too much to overcome as visiting George Washington defeated the UMass men's soccer team 3-0 on Friday afternoon at Rudd Field. The Colonials scored a pair of goals a minute apart in the 59th and 60th minute of play to secure the win.

The Minutemen fall to 4-11-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the Atlantic 10 with the loss. George Washington improves to 6-6-2 overall and 4-2-0 in league play.

UMass will host Richmond on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Noon. The game was originally slated to be played on Sunday, but was moved up a day due to impending inclement weather forecasted for the region.

The Colonials scored first in the 24th minute of play when Seth Rudolph netted his seventh goal of the season when he won a free kick placing a shot off the post.

Neither team could score in the remainder of the first half as GW led 1-0 at the intermission.

Nearly 14 minutes into the second half, Mattia Melillo scored his fourth goal after taking a cross from Zach Abaie to make it 2-0. One minute later, Abaie found Yoni Berhanu for the Colonials third goal of the game.

UMass finished the game outshooting George Washington 11-to-9, but were unable to find a goal. The Minutemen also held a 4-to-2 edge in corners.

Brendan Lafferty made three saves in the game for the Colonials, while Shane Curran-Hays took the loss making one save.
