S&D: Dartmouth Invitational Day One Recap

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed day one of the Dartmouth Invitational with the men sitting on top with a score of 387, while the women sit in second behind Dartmouth with a score of 283.50. The meet is scheduled to continue tomorrow at 10am.
The Minutewomen got the day started off with a second place finish in the 200-medley relay with Jenn Corriveau, Jessica Starosielec, Sarah Kanellas and Amina Meho finishing with a time of 1:49.75. Meho also finished fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.78.
Tavis Potter and Kaitlyn McKenna finished two/three in the 200 IM with times of 2:09.74 and 2:10.94, respectively. Chelsea Downing took third in the 1000 freestyle (10:33.83), teammate Molly Papish came in behind her in fifth (10:43.62).
The Minutemen took first in the 400 freestyle relay behind the swimming of Colin Mulcahy, Eric Zeimtez, Derek Hursch and Troy Nichols with a time of 3:08.93.
Freshman Chris Inglis set a new school record in the 1000 freestyle with a time 9:29.40, surpassing Scott Reed who set the record during the 1990-91 season with a time of 9:30.65. Inglis' time was good for second in the meet. Chris Howard, Trevor Ziegler and Peter Sacco finished two, three and four in the 50 freestyle with times of 20.99, 21.39 and 21.54, respectively. Freshman Jordan Guttrich took third in the 200 IM (1:53.78).
On the diving board, Molly Elkins took second with a score of 253.30 in the one-meter dive. Jason Cook and Adam Duffield, finished one, two in the three-meter dive with scores of 364.85 and 299.75, respectively.
Day two of the meet will begin tomorrow at 10 am.
