Box Score

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - With a pair of goals in each half, the UMass women's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 victory on the road at Fairfield on Sunday afternoon. The win was the second straight for the Minutewomen to improve their record to 3-2-0 on the year, while the Stags fall to 3-3-0 following the loss.

In a first half that saw UMass out-shoot Fairfield, 14-3, the Minutewomen got on the board at 31:57 after generating several quality scoring chances early. Junior Meghan Collins hustled to the touch line, keeping the ball in play and sent a pass across to the far post for senior Ashley Hamel who booted it home.

Just under 10 minutes later, junior Deanna Colarossi won a ball in the air at the top of the 18-yard box and sent a shot along the ground, tucking it inside the left post, 41:26 into the contest.

Senior co-captain Therese Smith set up both scores in the second half. First, in the 59th minute, Smith was denied on a diving save by Kelly Boudreau, but freshman Blair Ferry was there to pick up the rebound for her first collegiate goal.

Then in the 87th minute, Smith sent a though ball ahead to Colarossi who buried a shot low, near side, for her second tally of the afternoon.

UMass finished the contest with a 20-11 shot advantage, as the team has now out-shot its opponents 89-60 on the season. Corner kicks were 7-1 in Fairfield's favor, while fouls were even at nine apiece.

Sophomore Emily Cota made seven saves in her second shutout of the season and third of her career with the Minutewomen. Boudreau turned aside seven in net for the Stags and allowed three goals before being relieved by Kasey Cox, who played the final 12:36 and let up one goal.

UMass next travels to Michigan on Friday, Sept. 17, where the squad will play a 5 p.m. match against the Wolverines.
