Two-A-Days Continue For Minuteman Football

AMHERST, Mass. - The Minutemen continued with double sessions of practice on Monday with an early practice at 9 a.m., followed by a 3:30 p.m., time in the afternoon. Senior defensive back James Carven was honored with the blue MVP jersey before practice started on Monday. The Minutemen are geared up for the Jets-Giants preseason game on Monday night as three former UMass players will be in action: Victor Cruz with the Giants and James Ihedigbo and Vladimir Ducasse with the Jets.

Also on Monday, the Sports Network/Fathead.com Preseason Poll was released and UMass is listed among "Others Receiving Votes" with 45 votes. The Minutemen open the season against the preseason No. 4 William & Mary Tribe with a 3:30 p.m., kickoff on Sept. 4. Defending national champion Villanova is the preseason No. 1, but they are the only CAA team UMass doesn't face in 2010.
Also ranked from the CAA are No. 6 Richmond, No. 10 New Hampshire, No. 15 James Madison and No. 16 Delaware. The Minutemen are also slated to play No. 25 Holy Cross in the second game of the year on Sept. 11.
