Roswess' Pair Gives Soccer 2-1 Win Over Adelphi

AMHERST, Mass. - Sophomore forward Chris Roswess (West Springfield, Mass.) scored twice in the final 21 minutes leading the UMass men's soccer team to a 2-1 exhibition win over Adelphi at Rudd Field on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers had taken a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute before the Minutemen pulled out the win.
After a scoreless first half, it was Adelphi's Alexander Kouznetsov who scored the game's first goal with a beautiful bicycle kick on a high cross sent towards the right post.
Kouznetsov's goal was the only score allowed by UMass' junior goalkeeper Chris Piekos (Sinking Spring, Pa.) who made two saves in the game.
Six minutes later, the Minutemen evened the game on Roswess' first goal. Three minutes later, Roswess notched another goal on a strike in the 72nd minute.
UMass outshot Adelphi 8-to-7, while the Panthers held a 3-to-2 edge in corner kicks.
Thorne Holder played the entire 90 minutes in goal for Adelphi making four saves.
The Minutemen will head to No. 15 Connecticut next Saturday (7 PM) at Morrone Stadium for their second exhibition game of the preseason.
