Meho Set For Swimming World Championships

AMHERST, Mass. - Incoming freshman women's swimmer Amina Meho will be competing in the Lebanon National Team starting weekend at the World Swimming Championships in Rome, Italy. Meho, who lives in Burlington, Mass., will compete in the 50 and 100 in the free, back and fly. The event runs from July 26 through August 2.
Meho will be the first UMass swimmer to compete in the World Championships. She has dual citizenship as he father Mohamad Meho also swam for the Lebanonese National Team. He competed in the 1972 Munich Olympics against the legndary Mark Spitz.
"I am really excited for this opportunity and as a dual citizen very proud to represent Lebanon," said Meho, who was an All-Scholastic swimmer for Burlington H.S. "This will be a great experience to help prepare me for not only umass but for life."
UMass head coach Bob Newcomb is very proud to have a member of his team competing in the World Championships.
"This is a great opportunity for Amina," said Newcomb. "We are so excited to have her join the program this year. This is a great chance for her to look at swimming at the next level."
