Minutemen Add Seven Newcomers To 2009-10 Roster

AMHERST, Mass. - Men's swimming head coach Russ Yarworth will welcome six new freshmen and one transfer to the 2009-10 squad. The Minutemen graduated just two seniors this year after winning their third straight Atlantic 10 Championship and 11th Championship in school history.
This year's incoming class will include freshman Kyle Brown of Boulder, Co. who captained his high school team as a senior and was named to the All-Region team after setting personal-best times of 46.60 in the 100 free, 1:44.66 in the 200 free, 1:57.81 in the 200 IM, and 53.44 in the 100 back during his high school career. Another freshman that will be added to the roster will be Jorge Fortin of Boston, who swam for the Bay and Ocean State Squids while attending Brook Farm Academy and notched personal-best times of 21.63 in the 50 free, 47.01in the 100 free, 1:42.99 in the 200 free, and 51.66 in the 100 back during his career. Next is freshman Beau Garufi of Nantucket, Mass. who came in second in the 100 breast at the Massachusetts State Championships and boasts career-best time of 1:00.35 in the 100 breast, and 2:02.99 in the 200 IM.
Tim O'Neill and Pete Sacco will be the final Massachusetts natives added to the roster as O'Neill will join the team from North Easton, Mass. and Sacco hails from Rochester, Mass. O'Neill was a team captain at Oliver Ames High School and set person top times of 21.54 in the 50 free, 47.48in the 100 free, and 53.22 in the 100 fly while also competing for the Bluefish swim club. Sacco competed for the Cape Cod Swim Club, and holds the Club record in the 50 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, while he also holds personal-best marks of 21.14 in the 50 free, 46.65 in the 100 free, 59.07 in the 100 breast, and 51.13 in the 100 fly.
Joining the Minutemen as freshmen from out of state will be Rochester, N.H. native Eric Zeimetz, whose brother swam for the Minutemen, and New Canaan, Conn. native Sasan Tehrani. Zeimetz competed in various events as 22.11 in the 50 free, 49.50 in the 100 free 53.64 in the 100 fly, and 2:01.79 in the 200 fly are his best times in each event, while Tehrani, who was named a High School All-American and 2008 and 2009, competes as a sprinter and boasts 21.26 in the 50 free and 51.16 in the 100 fly as his personal best times.
The final addition to the 2009-10 roster will be University of Minnesota transfer Jony Menozzi. Menozzi, a native of Lakeville, Minn., will join the Minutemen for his senior season as he ha competed at Minnesota for the past three years. Some of Menozzi's top times while at Minnesota include a 4:35 finish in the 500 free, a1:52 finish in the 200 fly, and a 4:06 finish in the 400 IM. Coach Yarworth as stated that "Jony will be a great addition to our distance program. His versatility allows him to swim IM and Fly which will lend depth to those events as well."
