AMHERST, Mass. - For the second-consecutive year, it was Vanessa Patry who scored UMass' first goal of the season, this year knotting the game at one before the Minutewomen went on to defeat Boston University by the score of 3-1. Christina Nunes and rookie Sydney Stoll both added tallies in the win, UMass' first over the Terriers in 27 years.
"I am joyous for the players," said Head Coach Jim Rudy. "They came out and showed how they can play when they want to. I'm happy as a coach. It wasn't a great first half, but we hung in there and believed. It was a great team effort."
The Terriers grabbed a brief lead at 10:51 with a goal by Emily Pallotta, who's header beat Kristin Walker in the top right corner. The lead lasted all of 54 seconds before Patry's goal at 11:45. Her kick from the far right side slid under the crossbar and right over Stephanie Dreyer's reach.
Christina Nunes made it a 2-1 game at 37:10, beating BU's keeper in the top right corner after Jenny Roehrig's free kick to close out the half.
Sydney Stoll's goal at 51:39 closed out the scoring, assisted by Britt Canfield and Nadia Villarroel. Walker made a total of four saves in the contest, improving to 1-1 on the season. Her counterpart made three for the Terriers.
