Betsy Devine of the UMass Media Relations Office caught up with senior co-captain Liz Lovejoy of the women's swim team to ask her about life in the pool and around UMass.
Q: How long have you been swimming?
A: I have been swimming since I was in 8-and-under, so over 10 years.
Q: What are your favorite events to swim?
A: My favorite events to swim are the fly, and I like the 200-freestlye.
Q: What is the hardest event to swim?
A: The hardest event for me mentally is probably the 200-fly. Physically, probably the 100-freestyle.
Q: What is your favorite memory of swimming?
A: My favorite memory from swimming is last year, our relay at A-10, that broke the record. It was an 800-freestlye relay.
Q: How did it feel being named UMass athlete of the week last week?
A: It was a nice honor, I like that people notice the swimmers.
Q: How does it feel when you get a career best in something?
A: It feels great because you work so hard for it. Its awesome, I love it.
Q: What do you do to pump yourself up before a meet?
A: We do a lot of team cheers and we do team dance parties on deck which is a lot of fun.
Q: How do you think your four years have gone here at UMass?
A: My four years have gone by fast, but good. I think that I have gotten better with each year.
Q: What do you like to do in the down time that you have?
A: With the little downtime that I have, I watch a lot of movies, I read a lot, hang out.
Q: What is your favorite type of music? Movies?
A: Right now I am really into country, but I guess everything. For movies, I like them all, the cheesy girl ones are probably my favorite though.
Q: What are some of your favorite things to do in Amherst?
A: Eating Antonios pizza, and wings from the Hangar.
Q: Do you play any other sports?
A: Nope, just swimming. I used to play softball, but I am just concentrating on swimming now.
Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
A: Absolutly not.
Q: What do you think you will do when you graduate?
A: When I graduate, I am going to move back home and go to grad school. Hopefully I will teach eventually.
Q: What will you miss the most when you are done with UMass?
A: I will miss the girls on my team the most out of everything.
