ST. LOUIS, Mo. - UMass' (10-6-0, 4-4-0 A-10) attempts to make the Atlantic 10 tournament took a difficult turn on Friday evening as the Minutewomen dropped a 1-0 decision to Saint Louis (11-3-2, 6-2-0 A-10) on the road. The Billikens' gamewinning goal took place with under eight minutes remaining in the contest. UMass is currently in seventh place in the conference standings, two points behind Fordham in sixth, with a total of six teams making the upcoming A-10 tournament.
Dee Guempel was the only player with a shot on goal in the first half, taking all three for the Billikens. Julia Bradenberg broke the game open with her first goal of the season at 82:48 to give Saint Louis the lead. Guempel assisted on the tally, with the shot coming from 12 yards out on Kristin Walker.
Overall, shots were 16-6 in favor of the home team, including a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. Nadia Villarroel took that shot for UMass, while Walker made eight saves in the contest.
The Minutewomen face Duquesne on Sunday in Pittsburgh. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
